Stick Music Beginnings – In 1979, I wrote the music and lyrics for a show called The Sun King about Louis XIV, with Jack Migdalek. We formed a production company, Bilvak, and wrote another show, Busybugs, this time for children. I was secondary teaching at the time and became interested in school musicals, whilst playing bass in rock bands. I started to put all compositions and pre-published work under the banner of Stick Music and have used the name for all musical, writing and recording ventures ever since. To call the website stickmusic.com.au seemed like the next logical thing to do. I am performing and writing and have since learnt about the art of recording. The journey continues... |

David has been a teacher in Victorian Secondary Colleges and has contributed to student musical productions since the late 1970s as Musical Director, Producer, Instrumentalist and Voice Coach. On 6 and 12 string guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, keyboards and vocals, he has worked as a soloist and in combos, performing everything from Jazz, Blues and Celtic to Rock, Pop and Tropical styles. |
| As a composer, David has won awards in the Labour Day Song contest, the Aust Songwriters Assoc. contest and the Unisong International Song Contest (for Amnesty International). He has composed music, songs and soundtracks for St Martin’s Youth Theatre and the Victorian Arts Council. David has also been a staff composer and arranger, musician and producer for Bushfire Press in Australia, and linked to Dramatic Publishing Co in the USA. His shows include The Sun King, Open Season, Good Vibes, Kids in Camelot, The Little Mermaid, Masquerade!, A Kidsummer Night’s Dream and children’s adaptations of The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. His shows have been produced all over Australia and in New Zealand, New Guinea, Malaysia, the UK, the USA, France, Switzerland and South Africa. |
